Behind-the-Scenes

Wash Day: It Smells Like Honey

[source of pic]
Ok, every time I put up one of these posts it seems like I am trying out a new technique/product lol. I mean, I wash my hair once a week, normally a Saturday, and the wash day consists of the same general steps:

  1. Pre-poo for at least 30mins
  2. Shampoo
  3. Rinse
  4. Condition
  5. Rinse
  6. Apply Leave-in conditioner
  7. Detangle hair and apply moisturiser
  8. Style hair (Ha! Is bunning a real style?)
But this time (Saturday 2nd of March), I wanted to do something different.  I really want to get the amount of breakage under control so I decided to call upon a few natural products I have in my hair cupboard. Oh yes, I have a hair cupboard smh. The steps consisted of:

  • Pre-poo: I had a hot oil treatment using JBCO, Coconut oil and a couple drops of tea tree and rosemary oil; applied it to my scalp and length of hair. Then, I applied a generous amount of herbal Essences' Hello Hydration conditioner to my hair and put on my shower cap. I watched an episode of Teen Wolf and proceeded to rinse my hair after an hour.
  • Shampoo: I used my TRESemme luxurious moisture shampoo as I really need to finish this bottle. I am trying to make the move to sulphate free shampoos but I want to finish the ones I have currently before I embark on a spending spree. I shampooed my hair in sections with the help of some butterfly clips.
  • Rinse: I basically rinsed my hair lol. I feel the jet of cold water is too strong for my fragile hair strands as I can see my hair just fall off my head and down the drain *cries*. And sadly, I can't adjust the power of the water :(
  • Condition: I decided to deep-condition my hair with a little interesting mix of Elasta QP Deep Penetrating Remoisturising Conditioner, Honey and Coconut oil. I applied generous amounts to the length of my hair. I tried to focus mostly on my ends to combat the breakage *sigh*.
  • Rinse: I basically rinsed my hair...again :) The jet of cold water took more of my fragile hair strands with it as it made its way to the drain *cries*. But on the up side, my hair was soooooo soft and fluffy!!
  • Leave-in Conditioner: I thought I'd add a bit of protein into this regime by using my ApHogee Pro-Vitamin leave-in conditioner. I am seriously considering buying the ApHogee's Keratin 2 min Reconstructor. I've just always been terrified I'll fry off my hair but leaving it for longer that the required amount of time lol. I'm forgetful like that :)
  • Detangling and moisturising: I detangled my hair using a wide-tooth comb surprisingly. I didn't have that much breakage either... :D I let my hair air dry for a bit. Then, when my hair stopped dripping, I applied my D.I.Y shea butter-based moisturiser to my hair.

My hair was in an amazing state. It was soft, shiny and had movement.

Till next week!

Luv, Mo xx
