Tressful Days: The State of Being Relaxed

It has been aaaages since I did a hair related post and I do apologise to those who prefer these types of posts.

I love hair in all kinds of states. Short. Relaxed. Braids. Natural. Dyed. Locs. Weaves. Long. I find hair fascinating. Is that weird?

A quick update on the state of my hair

For the past 3 months, since my last relaxer, my hair has been somewhat difficult to manage. This was due to  its new thickness and the fact that a section of my hair was underprocessed when I had it relaxed in February. The protective style I used was predominantly bunning- high or low. I did try out the clip-in extensions I made for a week and it was great but the texture of my hair just didn't make it possible for my hair to properly blend with the extensions. Straightening my hair was also an issue as it seemed to just reject the heat, if that is possible haha.

On Tuesday I had had enough of the hair and thought it was about time to relax it. Luckily my dear friend, Mercy, was free to help me out. From the pictures I took of my hair once it had been relaxed, washed and straightened, it seems as though my hair has grown! Not by much though but the thickness is definitely travelling towards the ends of my hair which is good news.
See previous Hair Progress reports- 1 and 2.

I was afraid that because the past few months were the most stressful of my academic career, my hair would have had a major setback as I did encounter an increased rate of breakage and shedding. I wasn't a happy bunny. I think the increased rate of hair loss did set me back but not too drastically. I will try to find ways to minimise breakage. It may mean that I will have to use other forms of protective styles but I really want to find less stressful ways to take care of my hair without "hiding" it lol. I shall put a bit more effort in how I style my hair from now. It is quite tempting to start a  4 week HOTW  (hair of the week) challenge for myself... just so that this blog can hold me accountable. We'll see. It is all about being creative and mindful of those fragile ends. How hard can that be? :)

From the look of things I do need a trim which I am plucking up the courage to do... :D
Now that I do not have that much work on at the moment, I can experiment with a few DIY conditioners that I have been meaning to try out.

If you hair fanatics/stylists have any tips for me, please share them below!

Till next time!
