MOVIE MONDAYS: RUSH

I had been seeing a poster for Rush at the bus stop I rush to every weekday at 5pm to catch the bus home and I told myself I would definitely go see it. Why? Because it had Chris Hemsworth and cars. As you should know by now I do not purposefully seek the trailer of movies or check out their blurbs. I  go by posters mostly or by word of mouth or I catch the short trailers at the cinema. I prefer it when I know little about the movie as possible. I had no idea what Rush was actually about when I purchased the ticket to go see it last Friday. I was expecting it to be a cousin of Fast and Furious (you know how I love that franchise :D). It was anything but that.

Rush is not only set in the 1970's but it is also based on the true-life story of two Formula 1 race car drivers who were major rivals back in the day.  Now, this sounds like a total "guys" movie and I wouldn't have even wasted time contemplating watching it at the cinema if anyone had described it to me because F1 is not something I am into. And boy, would I have missed out. This movie was brilliant. I loved every second of it. It was not too long or too short or too unrealistic or too fake. Watching it was such a rush! See what I did there? Haha!

I was itching to go back to university to take up either a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or try my luck at being a Mech Eng undergrad for 4 years by the end of the movie. That was quickly dispelled by the flood of memories of the last 4 years at uni. All I know is, I am definitely going to try to take more of an interest in F1. I really hope this movie did not embellish the sport too much.

The two rivals in question were James Hunt (the English bad-boy racer who was high on life) and Niki Lauda (the calculating Austrian racer that was highly meticulous in all he did). James Hunt was played by Chris Hemsworth (ThorAvengers AssembleSnow White And The Huntsman) and Niki Lauda was played by Daniel Brühl (EvaThe Bourne Unltimatum). I cannot say that I have seen any of  Daniel Brühl's work before but he was great in this film. When Chris Hemsworth came on screen with an English accent, for some reason I was half-expecting him to say, "...old sport" lol. I am glad he didn't though. Me thinks he did a jolly good job with this character.

More infoRush was directed by Ron Howard (Angels and DemonsFrost/Nixon; A Beautiful Mind) and the screenplay was penned by Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon; The QueenThe Last King of Scotland).

Definitely check out this movie! I doubt you would regret it. It may not be your favourite movie of all time ( although it could sneak its way into your top 10) but it would never be the worst movie you have ever watched be you male or female, old or young.

Till next time!

Luv, Mo

P.S. Friday the 13th of September, 2013 was the day Thor became a mere motal (for me anyways). A great day that was. Got off work early as well. And they say Friday the 13th is unlucky pft! ;)
