MOVIE MONDAYS: CAN'T BUY ME LOVE

It is official!

I am in love with the '80s!

This weekend was incredibly busy by my standards (will let you know what when down in another post), I didn't even have the chance to go to the cinema. When I was meant to be getting ready to go to bed last night, I decided to watch Some Kind of Wonderful with my sister as were talking about the possibilities of me "reviewing" more older movies and I couldn't believe she hadn't seen it before. Unfortunately Netflix did not have Some Kind of Wonderful so we opted for one of the alternatives they suggested we see. And that is how we discovered Can't Buy Me Love.

This 1987 film is now one of my favourites this year. The cast. The clothes. The hairstyles. The swagger. Haha there was so much to love and cringe at in this movie. Directed by Steve Rash (EddieAmerican Pie Presents Band CampSon in Law) and written by Michael Swerdlick (When In RomeLove Don't Cost A ThingGetting There), Can't Buy Me Love is a teenage romantic comedy that highlights the dangers of losing sight of who you are and what you really want as you dance with the misconceptions of being part of the "it" crowd.

Even though this movie was done not that long ago it is so easy to see how far the film industry has come and realise that sometimes simplicity  (i.e. minimal flashy-ness) retains enough movie-magic to get you lost in the story that is being told.

This film was filled with such great characters, cheesy songs and terrible dance moves, and seeing Patrick Dempsey (Made of HonourGrey's AnatomyEnchanted), Pamela Peterson (BooneListen to MeExplorers) and Seth Green (Scooby Doo 2Family GuyThe Italian Job) so young was so funny and inspiring at the same time. It gave me such a huge boost that I became determined to make my dreams come true and I was even excited to go to work the next morning.

Can't Buy Me Love is a feel-good movie if I ever saw one. Will definitely be doing an 80's movie marathon sometime and introduce you guys to some hidden gems!

Till next time!

Luv, Mo
