Behind-the-Scenes

In Manchester: Salford Quays

It is about that time where my home for the past year is littered with boxes and bags full of crap that I've accumulated since uni began. So, as I say my goodbyes and see-you-soons I have taken it upon myself to explore the beautiful city I have lived in for 4 years whilst the weather is gooood.

On Monday, my mate Asima and I went to Salford Quays to have a little nosy round Media City.

Although almost nothing would ever make me jump in there for an afternoon swim, plenty of other people were doing just that. We decided to made our way to The Lowry instead as that seemed to be a safer activity.

The art exhibitions they had were quite intriguing; the ones we checked out were 'Unseen Lowry: Paintings and Drawings from Lowry's Home' and 'My Generation: The Glory Years of British Pop'.

I felt like I was a part of a secret team of people who were allowed to take a glimpse of L. S. Lowry's private collection of doodles, some of which he never intended on people seeing. I am no art scholar so don't expect me to have a profound insight on the works of artists. In my humble opinion, his interpretation of the human form and the society in which he lived seemed to be caricature-ish and dark in his early sketches. They were quite cool. There was one self-portrait that he did which freaked me out slightly. If you have the chance to check out the exhibition you'll know the one I am talking about lol. I really enjoyed looking at the photographs of famous 60's and 70's musicians taken by Harry Goodwin- Top of the Pop's resident photographer between 1964 and 1973. Some were shots taken during performances whilst others were portraits. They all looked so timeless.

Once we were done we headed to the Lowry Outlet Mall which was directly opposite the The Lowry.

The discounts in the discounts in the stores in this place were amazing. Cannot believe it took me 4 years to make my way there *shakes head*. I guess it was good for my bank balance I suppose.

We took rather quick look round, had lunch and decided to go outside and enjoy the sights...

All in all, it was a great day and I am glad I finally got to go to Salford Quays. Maybe one day, when I'm older and braver, I'll dip my toe in the water. Until then, I will try to go to as many other "hidden" places in Manchester that I didn't have the time to visit.

Till next time!

Luv, Mo xx
