ON THE EDGE: FILM || VOL. 10

December has come with is usual coolness which practically shoves us into the arms of scarves and beanies and thick coats and cups of hot chocolate. I cannot complain as those arms are rather comforting. Anyway, it has also brought a rather interesting set of new films as well and who are we to not, at the very least, take notice of them. Here is a selection of films out this month (... and the last one and the next one) that have me on the edge of seat - water bottle and all - in anticipation.

CAROL

It has been a while since I have seen Cate Blanchett in a film and as this promises me a visual story filled with romance I am more than happy to get lost in it. And I am excited to finally see a Rooney Mara project as my sister has been rabbiting on about her for weeks. I know she was in The Social Network which I saw when that came out but that was years ago! Looking forward to see what she brings to her character as I've been hearing good things. This was released on the 19th of November and you can watch the trailer here.

THE HUNGER GAMES:  MOCKINGJAY PART 2

It seems like only yesterday I was watching the premiere for this film live on YouTube and realised that I was several films behind in this franchise. Netflix has helped me out though and I am almost set to see the final installment and learn how the loose ends in Katniss' story ties up. This came out in cinemas on the 19th of November as well and of you haven't seen the trailer already, you can do so here.

JOY

There is much to be said about Jennifer Lawrence and her work - good things; great things even. And I cannot wait to see her in this as it seems like she is yet again flexing her acting abilities as and trying on some shoes that very unlike those of Katniss Evergreen. Joy also stars Bradley Cooper and I feel like I must admit that I am yet to see a film that they've both starred in but trust me when I say Silver Linings Playbook is on my watch list. To watch the trailer, click here or be brave like me and just go see it cinemas from the 1st of January - I know! I wish it was out sooner but hey ho, what can you do?

SUNSET SONG

I see this poster and think period drama therefore, this film is to be seen. Period. Ha! To find out more about this story of a Scottish girl coming of age in a time before now which was directed by Terence Davies, you can watch the trailer here and watch it in cinemas from the 4th of December.

VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN

If I am completely honest, I do not know much about the classic tale of Frankenstein as I have never, ever, ever welcomed the horror genre with open arms due to the main objective of those stories is to freak me the heck out. However, with two of my favourite actors being tied to an adaptation of the tale of Victor Frankenstein, I have decided to give horror a rare pass in the hopes that the drama element of the film will make it somewhat bearable. Not seen the trailer yet but I can tell you it will be released on the 3rd of December.

And there we have it folks. I know, I know, I did not mention one film that has people jumping for joy and counting down the days until it comes out (17th December) but that is because I am honestly not all that fussed about it. I cannot even remember the last time I watched a Star Wars film. And although I know I thoroughly enjoyed them when I was first introduced to that world, I just haven't dipped my toes back into that universe in a long time. So, if I eventually watch it I will be sure to share my thoughts on it. Also, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's film Sisters is due to be released on the 12th of December and I kind of want to see that but we'll see if that happens. Until then, I would love to know what films have you on the edge of your seat this month!
